Ethymology
In honor of Michel Charles Durieu de Maisonneuve (* December 7, 1796 in Saint-Eutrope-de-Born, Lot-et-Garonne department, † February 20, 1878 in Bordeaux). He studied at the École Militaire de Brienne and later at the Saint-Cyr Military School, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant. From 1813 to 1848 he served in the French army. In the mid-1820s he developed an interest in natural history and botany. He took part in the Morea expedition to Greece with the naturalist Jean Baptiste Bory de Saint-Vincent and was a member of a committee for the scientific exploration of Algeria from 1840 to 1844. From there he sent pressed orchids to Reichenbach, who mentioned him again and again in his work of 1851 in the rank of captain. As an honor for this collaboration, Reichenbach named a fusca variety after him. In 1858 he became director of the botanical garden in Bordeaux and was professor of botany in Bordeaux from 1867 to 1877.
